At Cowley Hill School, the intent of our Art curriculum is to provide a rich and stimulating, artistic experiences where all pupils flourish and become creative independent learners. Children build on knowledge and skills to become proficient artists. They learn about great artists and understand the historical and cultural development of different art forms around the world. Students are taught through a rich, diverse and creative curriculum and have the opportunity to reflect on creative works.
Our art curriculum provides a clear and comprehensive scheme of work that shows progression of skills across all key stages through the strands of Art. Children build on skills and techniques through experimental learning, demonstration and guidance. We design, organise and plan our curriculum, mapping skills progression throughout the school.
Children are encouraged to express their creative imagination, and are provided with opportunities to practise and develop mastery in the key processes of art, which includes: drawing, painting, printing and textiles. They study key artists and make connections with art in the world around them.
Co-ordinated whole-school project work ensures that art is given high status in the curriculum and the school takes part in an annual exhibition in the local area.
