Coronovirus Update

Following the update from the government yesterday to close schools to further suppress transmission of COVID-19, I would like to update you on the current situation and how we move forward into next week.

We are currently having to run on a much reduced staffing structure due to staff illness and staff self-isolating due to underlying health problems.

As a school we are committed to ensuring that we support needs of parents who are ‘Key Workers’ moving forwards and provide a service for identified vulnerable children. If you are a key worker and have childcare available at home, not sending your child to school will help reduce the continued pressure on the school and also help reduce the spread of the virus within our school community.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards.

Please complete the reply slip below if you believe that you are currently employed in one of the key worker groups. Pupils who currently have an Education and Health Care Plan or who are currently being supported by social care will also be entitled to send their children to school next week. We are currently awaiting guidance from the government for an exhaustive list of key worker roles. Please refer to list of key worker roles, which will be provided by the government later on today to see if you qualify.

Please be aware that school will not be operating lessons as normal during this period. Pupils who are at home can continue to work on the activities provided. We are currently working to ensure Google classroom is fully operational for all pupils and that information is also available through the website.

Unfortunately, due to current staffing difficulties we will not be able to guarantee the running of Breakfast and After School Club for the foreseeable future. I have had to take the difficult decision to suspend this provision from Friday 20th March, ensuring that I can fully staff school before any additional provision.

School will be open from 8.00am until 4.00pm (no breakfast will be provided).

We are currently being asked by government to provide school lunches for current Free School Meal children. As of Monday we will only be providing school packed lunches. If you are entitled to Free School Meals, food will be available for collection from 10.30am to 11.30am. If however you are self-isolating due to underlying health concerns or a member of the household has symptoms please arrange for someone else to collect your child’s lunch – please email and let them know. If you are able to help support school delivering free school meals to families who are self-isolating please contact the school office via email. We will do our best to deliver these lunches. If you do not wish to take up your FSM entitlement please contact the school office via email so that precious food isn’t wasted.

If you believe you qualify as a key worker you must complete the attached form and return to school by 12.00 noon Friday 20th March. Please do not just turn up on Monday as you may be turned away. I understand that this is a really tight timeframe however as I am sure you will understand we need to plan staffing for Monday. Please either hand the form into the office or email to

You will also need to provide proof of employment as a key worker – this can be either a copy of your contract, letter from employer on headed paper, email from employer from official work email address.

I would like to thank you for all of your support for the school at this difficult time.

20 children from year 6 performed in the Youth Makes Music Concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London. This was a fantastic event, hosted by the BBC’s Bill Turnball, with multiple schools performing across a range of music genres. Our children were part of the ABAS djembe drumming group, performing with older students from the Purcell Music School. The children performed brilliantly to close the show. Well done to everyone who took part.

Recently we took part in World Book day which celebrates reading, books and the love of reading. As part of our celebrations we all dressed up as our favourite book character- including the teachers!

Each classroom also voted on their favourite book and decorated the outside of their doors to reflect a different story.
