History
History at Cowley Hill
Intent:
Create a motivating curriculum that encourages questioning about the past
Develop progressive key skills from Nursery through Key Stage 2:
Historical investigation and questioning
Chronological understanding of modern and ancient history
Knowledge of key historical events
Understanding of significant historical figures
Build critical thinking, evidence evaluation, and judgment skills
Develop cultural capital through historical knowledge and experiences
Implementation:
Aligned with National Curriculum and clearly sequenced
Uses progression grids for skills, knowledge, and vocabulary development

Historical artefacts
Visitors and workshops
Educational visits
Special focus on Black History to celebrate diverse achievements
