First of all Happy New Year! Reception kick started Spring term with writing their New Year resolutions. It was an excellent opportunity to reflect on how far they have come since September but also a reminder on how they need to continue with their fabulous learning.

Our topic for Spring 1 is 'New Beginnings and Animals'. The adults have been busy in Reception by changing some of the areas within the classroom as suggested by the children so that they follow their interests. The children also wanted a larger mathematics and investigation area so we have re-organised our classroom. We have also decided to give children more responsibility to look after their own environment - one of our New Year resolutions are to keep the classroom tidy, organised and inviting especially when moving to a different area. We are sure you will all agree this is an important life skill to develop and foster from a young age – please encourage them to do the same at home!

The children have also expressed an interest in learning about animals, learning different languages and having more opportunities to cook and bake. This is what we will be focusing on this term.

Please remember our aim in Reception is for all children to be secure, independent, confident and happy children who love and enjoy learning. Please continue to support us by working in partnership with us. To develop this partnership we plan to host several stay and play sessions for parents to come and join us in Reception - dates for these events are to be followed shortly. We would also like to remind parents of our Busy Fingers timetable - this is a great opportunity to look at your child's learning journal with them every week. We also have decided to introduce a weekly slot every Friday morning from 8.30am to 8.50am so that you can come in and read with your child - we know this can sometimes be tricky to do in the evenings. Once again thank you for your support and we look forward to completing another great term in Reception.

The school works closely with The BECC to offer children and families, skills, support and advise. We run many sessions with the BECC from Cook 4 life to Tea club through Foundation stage. Please take a look at their website to see what they have to offer in the local area including parenting courses and stay and play sessions.
