This term we have been exploring the topic Space. We have been looking at a different story each week to explore the theme of Aliens and Space. We have been developing our language by describing the settings and characters within the books. In Maths we used 2D shapes to create rockets, in expressive arts and design we used marbling paint to create our own planets, in phonics we have been looking at real words and alien words.
We enjoyed cooking, especially for shove Tuesday and making heart cookies for Valentine’s Day; we also made alien smoothies.
Reception are now onto their topic of Traditional Stories. Each week we will be exploring a different traditional story, we will be sequencing and re-telling the stories, describing the characters and settings. We will be starting with Goldilocks and the three bears, we have been discussing how our actions can affect others, and writing sorry letters to the bears. When we read Jack and the bean stalk we have been exploring our own giant rhymes and writing book reports. We also looked at how a seed grows, observing the changes by growing our own runner bean plants; and then writing own instruction. We will be looking at Little red riding hood and designing our own capes and weaving our own baskets, we will also be writing our own sentences to match the pictures from the story. When we read The Gingerbread man we will be writing our own story endings and baking our own gingerbread men. When we will explore the three billy goat gruff, where we will be discussing how grass grows, writing signs for the goats, and creating our own bridges.
In Phonics this term and have been re-capping our phase 2-4 sounds. The children then use their phonics knowledge in their writing during their exploring time and during our topic work, to complete their writing. We have enjoyed seeing our work up on display.
Please remember our aim in Reception is for all children to be secure, independent, confident and happy children who love and enjoy learning. Please continue to support us by working in partnership with us. To develop this partnership we plan to host several stay and play sessions for parents to come and join us in Reception - dates for these events are to be followed shortly.
We would also like to remind parents of our Busy Fingers timetable - this is a great opportunity to look at your child's learning journal with them every week. We also have decided to introduce a weekly slot every Friday morning from 8.30am to 8.50am so that you can come in and read with your child - we know this can sometimes be tricky to do in the evenings. Once again thank you for your support and we look forward to completing another great term in Reception.
