This term the children in year 5 will be learning about the Vikings in their topic work. As always, our topics will feed into lots of other aspects of the curriculum allowing the children to explore this part of history as fully as possible.
The children will have a very active term. Sports day is fast approaching so they will be preparing for this, by practising athletics in games sessions as well as learning the rules of how to play cricket and rounders and the various team skills associated with these sports.
In maths the children will be collecting, presenting and interpreting data, as well as reinforcing the skills they’ve been working on, in all aspects of number. We will also be helping the children to consolidate the topic of fractions, decimals and percentages.
In our English sessions, we are continuing our work on the book ‘The Boy in the Tower’ by Polly Ho-Yen. This will help the children understand and write mystery and suspense stories and enable them to acquire the sentence and text level skills to create tension in their audience.
We also have two trips planned to enrich our curriculum, one is to the Globe Theatre and the other is to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich.
All the team in year 5 look forward to a fantastic term ahead.
