People Who Help Us
This term Nursery will be learning about People Who Help Us. The children will be exploring the different occupations and how they help us. They will be collecting ideas and exploring these occupations through their role play, small world and adult led sessions. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this so far and have created some wonderful pieces of artwork to represent people who help us along with some fantastic ideas for the next few weeks.
We have some exciting visits coming up this term with firefighters, a vet and police officers coming to visit us and telling us more about their jobs.
In maths this term the children will be exploring matching numeral to quantity and representing numbers to ten either through marks or physical representations. The children will also be exploring positional language during their maths lessons.
We have looked closely at last terms topic of All About Me where we discovered the children’s interests and will be using some of these within our Guided Reading sessions. We will be beginning with the books The Gruffalo, Dear Zoo and Emergency which the children showed great interest in last term. We will be looking closer at these books and discovering characters, settings and making predictions.
The children will continue their Phonics learning by exploring sounds around body percussion, animal sounds, instrumental sounds and us. The children will also be looking closer at different texts during their Phonics lessons, exploring lower and upper case letters, full stops and the differences between letters and words.
There has been a Phonics board added at the Nursery entrance, which allows you to see which sounds the children are currently learning and here are resources available for you to take to practise at home with your child. Please also see the notice board inside Nursery which is updated weekly to keep you up to date with what the children are learning each week and ideas for at home learning.
I would again like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents and carers in Nursery for their continued support with home learning and reading. The children are loving reading and are coming into school sharing their knowledge of the books they have enjoyed at home. A very exciting Spring term for Nursery to look forward to!
