Nursery

Growing, Animals and Transition.

We have a very busy term ahead of us in Nursery as we continue our learning and look forward to our transition into Reception.

In maths this term we will be learning to sort objects based on size and learning how to describe and compare amounts and objects. We will also be learning to count objects and find the answer by matching the amount to the numeral. We will also be securing our knowledge of 2D shapes and introducing some 3D shapes.

In phonics, we will be consolidating our phase 1 sounds, learning how to recognise these and identifying them in different situations. We will also be focusing on rhyme, alliteration and initial sounds, not only in our Phonics lesson but also in all lessons. Please encourage your child to practise these at home and to continue checking your child’s reading record for any Phonics learning. Finally, we will also be exploring letters of the alphabet, how to say these letters, form letters and find them in text.

We have had a huge interest in books this year in Nursery which is fantastic for our reading sessions. Following online learning where we discovered the children’s favourite stories, we have lots of wonderful stories planned where we will be consolidating our understanding of stories, settings, characters and predicting story endings.

In our topic this term we will be looking at all types of animals, habitats and life cycles. We will be investigating different animals and how these change and grow. We will be creating lots of different opportunities for the children at school to explore animals, habitats and changes in real life situations.

A big focus for us this term is transitioning the children so they are fully prepared for life in Reception in September. We will be encouraging the children to visit Reception more often and be visiting the classrooms for story times to allow the children to become comfortable with the environment.

ursery have had an absolutely fantastic year and I have no doubt that this term will be no different. We are looking forward to all of our learning and thank you for all of your continued support. As always, please do ask a member of the Nursery team on how you can support the children with their current learning.

The school works closely with The BECC to offer children and families, skills, support and advise. We run many sessions with the BECC from Cook 4 life to Tea club through Foundation stage. Please take a look at their website to see what they have to offer in the local area including parenting courses and stay and play sessions.
