This term in Reception we are exploring the theme of space. We discussed our interests, and one of our peers showed a particular interest and in depth knowledge about space. We all agreed we wanted to explore different stories about this theme. We have been very excited to read stories about aliens and stars. As part of this theme, each week we will be exploring a different book, ‘Peppa in Space’, ‘Whatever Next’, ‘How to catch a star’, ‘Aliens love underpants’, ‘Man on the moon’, and ‘Here comes the aliens’; developing our love for reading, listening and attention skills, and also our role play from stories.
In literacy, we will use our books to develop our describing skills, to describe the characters and the settings in the books. We will be exploring different writing genres, such as wanted posters, menus and alternative story endings.
We will be linking our creative development to our topic book each week, exploring different techniques, such as marbling, aboriginal style dot painting and alien cooking. We will also be learning a new wake-and-shake which will include some space walking moves.
In our understanding of the world learning, we will be discussing the planets and comparing how they differ from our planet, ‘Earth’, using describing words and noticing patters and changes.
We are learning about My Personal Best. It uses PE to teach a variety of skills. Our key skill this half term is integrity. We are learning to show integrity in a variety of different contexts. This helps us transfer the skills to other lessons, life in school and the wider environment.
