Reception

Superheroes, Animals and Transitions

In our Mathematical learning this term we will be exploring doubling, sharing and halving, completing addition and subtraction sums with single and double digit numbers, identifying the properties of 3D shapes, identifying number bonds to 5, exploring capacity and securing the vocabulary of full, half full and empty.

In our phonics learning, we will be continuing to secure phase 2 and 3 sounds and tricky words, and applying them to form simple sentences. We will be pushing to add more details to our writing and adding the conjunctions ‘and’ and ‘because’. We will be continuing to send home spelling each week, for children to practise applying the correct graphemes to their writing.

Our topics in the Summer term we will be looking at Superheroes and all types of animals, habitats and life cycles. We will be investigating different animals and where the live. We will be comparing habitats and seeing how they are different to our own homes. We will also be looking at the different food animals eat. We will be exploring stories linked to our Superheroes theme and using these to develop our story telling skills, character descriptions and creating settings.

A big focus for us this term is transitioning the children so they are fully prepared for year 1 in September. We will be visiting the classrooms for story times to allow the children to become comfortable with the environment.

The school works closely with The BECC to offer children and families, skills, support and advise. We run many sessions with the BECC from Cook 4 life to Tea club through Foundation stage. Please take a look at their website to see what they have to offer in the local area including parenting courses and stay and play sessions.
